(August 26, 2025) — Before working at the School of Health as associate director of student and academic affairs, Bryson Daniels-Stevens, MEd, had worked in two other higher education settings. When he joined the school in October, he was impressed by the friendly faculty members.

“In my office, I always leave the door open unless I’m in a meeting, and literally every single faculty member says hi to me,” he said. “They will always stop by and just check in and see how you’re doing, and I appreciate that.”

Daniels-Stevens was also impressed by the students he encountered. “The students at Georgetown are very special,” he said. “They’re very driven, they’re smart, they’re truly caring.”

“Once I moved to Georgetown, I really fell in love with it,” Daniels-Stevens added. “There’s just a sense of community that you don’t get in very many places. It’s very welcoming.”

From S.C. to D.C.

Originally from South Carolina, Daniels-Stevens previously worked as an academic coordinator for the football team at Auburn University. After earning his master’s degree in higher education, Daniels-Stevens interned in athletics at the University of Maryland and found that he was more interested in academic affairs than athletics.

In March 2023, he started working at Georgetown’s Department of Government in the M.A. in Democracy & Governance program. “I did anything and everything because it was such a small program,” Daniels-Stevens said. “I did a lot more budgeting and things like that, but it was still student-focused.”

“I’ve worked at two public universities and now I’ve worked at Georgetown, and it’s a completely different atmosphere,” he added. “They really value work-life balance.”

Daniels-Stevens plans CURA, a pre-orientation program for first-year students interested in careers in the field of health care.

Describing his role as “the administrative side of academic affairs,” Daniels-Stevens deals with procurement, purchasing and course scheduling. He also works closely with students through the School of Health Academic Council. “I get to mentor that small group of students and truly see what they’re all about, what their aspirations are, and what they like to do outside of school,” he said. “I find that really special.”

Additionally, Daniels-Stevens plans events, including the Georgetown Admissions Ambassador Program (GAAP) sessions, family weekend, and celebrations at the beginning and end of the school year. To prepare for CURA, a pre-orientation program for first-year students interested in careers in the field of health care, he selects two students who previously took part in CURA to serve as student coordinators, then helps them recruit, interview and select student leaders.

Daniels-Stevens said that planning commencement for the School of Health has been his biggest achievement and most rewarding experience at Georgetown so far. “Even though I just started in October, I got to know a lot of these students who are graduating,” he said.

“Graduation is a very happy experience for the students and their families, and there was so much work that went into it,” he added. “That was one of those instances where I was just like, wow, that was worth it.”

Exploring at Home and Abroad

In the mornings before work, Daniels-Stevens can be found running on trails near his home in Pentagon City, Virginia. “I really enjoy running,” he said. “I run for fun. I have yet to run in a sanctioned race but I will be running the Army Ten Miler.”

Daniels-Stevens also enjoys traveling, an interest he shares with his husband. In June, they went on their honeymoon in Italy after getting married in December in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

In addition to Italy, Daniels-Stevens has also traveled to Mexico, Croatia, Ireland and France, their favorite destination. “We visit Paris quite frequently,” he said. “We might purchase a vacation home in the countryside in France to have a place to visit and eventually retire abroad.”

When they’re not traveling, they enjoy movies and trying local restaurants.

“One of my favorite things about the D.C. area is the variety of cuisines that it offers,” he said. “I come from a small rural area that doesn’t have a lot of food options, so moving to a city was quite an eye-opening experience.”

Daniels-Stevens likes sharing details about his favorite new restaurants with students by creating a restaurant tour guide. “I think that food is an easy way to explore the area as well,” he said. “I like to provide nice starting points for students.”
