Gift Strengthens Support for Parents with Cancer and Their Families
Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center announces the establishment of a new initiative designed to provide information and support services to parents with cancer. Thanks to a substantial gift from Elizabeth’s Smile, a cancer support organization co-founded by Nancy Hungerford, Georgetown Lombardi will develop an Interventions for Managing Parenting and Cancer Team (IMPACT) and a signature program called Family Circle by Elizabeth’s Smile.

Health Equity Course Celebrates 10 Years of Educating and Empowering Students
Over the last 10 years, about 150 students from across the university have taken “Health Equity Think Tank: Exploring Realities and Solutions,” an innovative course created by the School of Health and the School of Nursing that encourages students to take a solutions-oriented approach to health equity issues.

Georgetown Secures Highest Research Classification for the 30th Year
Georgetown has received the highest classification for its research and training, earning the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s designation as an “R1” institution. The designation, awarded to U.S. universities with “very high research activity,” marks the 30th year Georgetown has achieved top-tier stature.

School of Medicine Student Ties for Second Place in Georgetown Entrepreneurs Annual ‘Bark Tank’ Pitch Competition
A student team led by Joyce Wang (M’25) received a $25,000 prize for their pitch for Provision Surgical, which offers intraoperative surgical navigation using augmented reality powered by machine learning to improve orthopedic surgical accuracy, during the Leonsis Family Entrepreneurship Prize “Bark Tank” Pitch Competition.

With a New ‘Map’ of Cells, Georgetown Cancer Researchers Chart a Course to More Effective Treatment
Faculty and students from Biomedical Graduate Education programs, the School of Medicine and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center are developing a new technique that could revolutionize the way cancers are tracked and treated. Instead of invasive surgical biopsies or time-consuming scans, clinicians could use simple blood tests to determine where the cancer is and whether it is responding to treatment.
