Georgetown’s Jonklaas Named to Board of American Thyroid Association

WASHINGTON— Jacqueline Jonklaas, MD, PhD, MPH, associate professor of medicine and endocrinology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, was installed on the American Thyroid Association’s (ATA) board during the ATA’s annual meeting in October. She is a member of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science.
“I’m proud to be part of an organization that places a high priority on thyroid research,” says Jonklaas, who currently is helping lead clinical trials related to thyroid cancer and hypothyroidism. “The ATA’s focused mission will lead to real change in how thyroid disorders are treated and perhaps, prevented, which will impact people around the world.”
Jonklaas divides her time equally between patient care, research and teaching. The primary focus of her research is the management of thyroid cancer and hypothyroidism. Jonklaas has servedon several committees for the ATA including patient education and advocacy, the surgical task force and the awards committee. She is currently co-chair of the task force on thyroid hormone replacement.
