40th Annual Golden Apple Awards Presented

(April 19, 2018) — Georgetown University School of Medicine faculty and staff members were honored at the 40th Annual Golden Apple Awards. This year’s event was held on April 7 at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Golden Apple Awards
Each class presents the Golden Apple Award annually to a faculty member whose outstanding professional and personal qualities have enhanced the medical education of members of the class.
Joseph Timpone, MD – Class of 2021
Yvonne Hernandez, PhD – Class of 2020
Carlo Tornatore, MD – Class of 2019
Kacie Saulters, MD – Class of 2018
Cura Personalis Award
The Cura Personalis Award recognizes exemplary individuals who embody the spirit of professionalism and cura personalis both in and out of the classroom.
Emily Shaffer – Class of 2021
John (Jack) Pollack – Class of 2020
John C. Rose Award
John C. Rose, MD (M’50, H’73), considered by many to be the “architect” of the modern School of Medicine at Georgetown University, became dean at the age of 38 and led a major period of growth in terms of physical buildings, faculty and programs. The John C. Rose Award is presented annually to a member of the faculty or administration who has demonstrated outstanding service to the school and has contributed to the improvement of medical education and student life.

Physiology Teacher of the Year Award
Students in the Special Masters Program in Physiology present the Physiology Teacher of the Year Award to a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional qualities as an educator.
Aviad Haramati, PhD
The Doctoring Award
The Doctoring Award recognizes a faculty member, module director or leader in a Clinical Skills Course whose outstanding teaching, professional and personal qualities have enhanced the medical education of the members of the class.
Erin Farrish, MD
Faculty Affiliate Award
The Faculty Affiliate Award is presented to a physician outside of Georgetown who has made a significant contribution to our clinical medical education and mentored our medical students.
Deborah Topol, MD
Excellence in Teaching at HOYA Clinic Award
The Excellence in Teaching at HOYA Clinic Award recognizes a physician or nurse practitioner who demonstrates exemplary patient care and teaching skills at the HOYA Clinic.
Stephen Ray Mitchell, MD
Jeanne V. Walther Award for Administrative Excellence
The student leaders select an administrator who has displayed outstanding service to receive this award. Jeanne V. Walther (G’78) who served as the dean of finances and the registrar of the School of Medicine, was known as an unsung hero of the student body who for over 30 years helped make their lives complete at Georgetown.
