How long have you worked at GUMC?

Just over three years

What led you to your position here at GUMC?

I had previously worked in home health agencies in a variety of roles. I wanted to branch out into a different area, and education seemed like an appealing field.

In your role, how do you interact with the GUMC community?

As a program coordinator, I’m lucky to have the opportunity to interact with many people, especially in HR, Finance and Student Affairs.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I’m helping my program succeed while also helping students achieve their goals.

What is a skill you have that might surprise people?

Almost 20 years ago, I played a couple of bit parts in a local production of a very obscure Shakespeare play. After our three scheduled performances had ended, the director said that if he had known at the beginning what he knew at the end, he would have cast me as the female lead. I also enjoy writing when the inspiration hits, and about 12 years ago I had a short piece published in an issue of Hill Rag, the free community paper of Capitol Hill.

What did you learn about yourself as a professional during the pandemic?

I learned how much I really appreciated working around others and having a clear demarcation between my work life and home life.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy going on nature walks, bird-watching, genealogy, sailing when I get a chance, and occasionally I attempt to play golf.

What is your greatest achievement (personal or professional)?

I have spent my life taking in and rescuing stray cats. In related news, I recently got married…

What is the best lesson you have learned from working at GUMC?

You’re never too old to reinvent yourself and keep striving for bigger and better things.
