WASHINGTON (June 11, 2020) — As protests against racial injustice continue around the United States and around the world, the Center for Global Health Science and Security (GHSS) has published guidance and social media infographics that are available for free to organizers, governments and individuals to proactively take steps to minimize the risk of COVID-19.
The information covers actions before, during and after a protest. Tips for government agencies include ensuring protest routes are clear to ensure continuous movement and preparing for enhanced testing and tracing after protests. Tips for organizers include communicating to protestors about the need for wearing masks and distancing, and to avoid crowded public transportation when travelling to and from the protest.
“The GHSS recognizes that while we have been working on fighting the COVID pandemic, racism and inequality are also clearly pandemics and public health emergencies,” says Rebecca Katz, PhD, MPH, professor and director of the Center for Global Health Science and Security at Georgetown University Medical Center.
