  • Interprofessional Learning Experience Inspires Students to Practice Coordinated Care

    Recognizing the importance of coordinated patient care among nurses, doctors and others, students from the School of Medicine and School of Nursing partnered for an interprofessional field trip to focus on caring for the aging.

  • Types of Bacteria Vary Widely in Tumors of People with Early vs. Late-Onset Colorectal Cancer

    Researchers at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center studied the microbiome of people with colorectal cancer and found the makeup of the bacteria, fungi and viruses in a person’s tumor varied significantly depending on whether they were diagnosed with early onset disease (age 45 or younger) or late-onset disease (age 65 or older). These results may help answer the riddle of why more young people are developing colorectal cancer, particularly those who have no known identifiable risk factors for the disease.

    Ever since their own families grappled with their own health crises, Dr. Ralf Martz Sulague (G’23) and Dr. Allison Fitzgerald (M’23, G’23) wanted to pursue careers taking care of patients’ health. But they both knew they wanted to make an impact outside of the doctor’s office and came to Georgetown to expand the reach of their MD degrees.

  • School of Nursing Graduate Will Practice Cura Personalis as a Newly Commissioned Naval Officer

    Sarah Bryant (N’23) knew at a young age that she wanted to be both a nurse and naval officer. Georgetown gave her the opportunity to pursue both passions while putting into practice the Jesuit value of cura personalis, care of the whole person. Bryant was commissioned May 22 as an ensign in the United States Navy during a ceremony at the Jefferson Memorial.

  • Celebrating Students’ Achievements and Gifts at the First Annual School of Health Tropaia Ceremony

    The day before their commencement ceremony, students graduating with degrees from the School of Health joined faculty members, friends and family members for the Tropaia Ceremony May 19 in Lohrfink Auditorium in the Hariri Building to celebrate extraordinary accomplishments among the Class of 2023.

  • Graduates from School of Health Called to Be Social Justice Warriors

    “Wow, just wow!” With those three words of joy from School of Health Dean Christopher J. King, PhD, MHSc, FACHE, commencement exercises began for the inaugural class of the school founded less than a year earlier. A spirited audience of family, friends and loved ones filled the seats of the storied Gaston Hall for the May 20 graduation.
