Recognizing her contributions to understanding the nature of human language, The Franklin Institute awarded Elissa L. Newport, PhD, with one of its 2015 Franklin Institute Awards. The Benjamin Franklin Medal was presented to Newport at the institute’s awards ceremony April 23 in Philadelphia.

Georgetown’s Jesse Goodman Elected President of United States Pharmacopeial Convention
Georgetown University Medical Center professor Jesse Goodman, MD, MPH, has been elected president of the 2015–2020 United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). Goodman, director of the Center on Medical Product Access, Safety and Stewardship (COMPASS) at Georgetown, begins his five-year term in the voluntary position this month.

Researchers To Launch First Trial of Standard vs. Molecular Therapy for Pancreatic Cancer
Two powerhouses of cancer support — the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) — have jointly awarded Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia $1 million over three years to determine whether molecularly tailored treatment for pancreatic cancer improves survival compared with the current standard of care.
