(February 11, 2025) — Over the course of the fall semester and winter break, Georgetown’s Planning & Facilities Management team, in coordination with the Georgetown University Medical Center’s Executive Vice President’s office, has been hard at work to make GUMC more energy efficient and modernize our Hilltop Campus facilities.

From Wi-Fi upgrades across buildings to enhance our online experience to restroom sink and tile renovations, there are many new upgrades to enjoy this spring.

Learn more about the newest renovations and updated facilities on the Medical Center campus.

Since December, Facilities has conducted Wi-Fi upgrades to support our community’s technological needs in the DML and Pre-Clinical Science Building, with work in the Basic Science Building underway.

This refresh project will strengthen our internet signal to better support video conferencing.

In September 2024, facilities opened the new Meditation Room in St. Mary’s Hall. Located at 121-A, the room is available for all students, staff and faculty for moments of quiet and meditation when desired.

Prayer rugs, holy books and religious articles from different faith traditions are also available for use.

Interior Renovations

Over the 2024 winter break, the New Research Building, Basic Science Building and Med Dent restrooms saw a light makeover. Eleven restroom sinks underwent renovations and two restrooms on the 1st floor north side of Med Dent had new tile flooring installed.

In addition, a new lighting and ceiling grid was installed throughout the Pre-Clinical Science Building to brighten the walkways for occupants.

Updated Spaces for Medical Students

A number of improvements to benefit School of Medicine students were recently completed or are underway throughout our campus. These include:

Annex Study Space

A room with windows is filled with couches, tables and chairs

The annex has undergone significant improvements to optimize a flexible, ergonomic and productive study and relaxation space for students. Upgrades include all new furnishings (couches, chairs, adjustable height desks, laptop stands, table task lights, movable electrical towers and white boards), a sound-masking system for noise mitigation, and a new heating and cooling system for improved temperature control.

New Lombardi Student Space

A brand-new student space has been developed in the lower level of Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center to serve as a dedicated study and lounge space for students on clinical rotations at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Center for Health Equity

The Center for Health Equity is developing a brand-new student flex space in the Pre-Clinical Sciences Building, with an anticipated opening around April 2025. Medical students involved in community engagement programs will be welcomed to use the center with badge swipe access for study, meetings, community engagement efforts, strategic planning, and events.

A/V Tech Upgrades

Audio/video systems have been upgraded throughout academic spaces, including the ILC classrooms, SW107 and NE201C, and sound system upgrades were made in the Dahlgren Memorial Library TBL space.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve our campus. We hope that these enhancements improve the student, staff and faculty experience on the Medical Center campus. For ongoing project information, please visit the Active Construction Website.
