New Medical Center Marketplace Nears Completion

JANUARY 23, 2014 — Renovations are nearing completion of the Medical Center’s new marketplace, which is undergoing a transformation to provide the community a greater variety of grab-and-go food options.

The marketplace, located in the Pre-Clinical Science Building where the medical bookstore used to be, is targeted to open at the end of March. The medical bookstore is now located in the Leavey Center.

The new market will offer brands customers might already familiar with, such as Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Ben & Jerry’s, Jamba Juice and more. In addition to fresh produce and other grocery items, customers can expect to see health and beauty aids and a new seating area. Aramark is overseeing the renovations.

“In reviewing sales mix of the items sold in the medical center bookstore, having conversations with students and administrators and community survey results, it was clear that there is a demand for a larger food service operation,” says Joelle Wiese, associate vice president of Auxiliary Business Services. “We are hard at work in making sure that this new space is one that will meet the needs of the entire GUMC community for years to come.”

It’s All in the Name

With renovations nearly complete, all that’s missing is the market’s name. Auxiliary Business Services is holding a naming contest, and is soliciting entries from all GUMC faculty, staff and students for the best name submitted.

The deadline for all entries is Monday, Feb. 9. Be sure to include your own name along with your marketplace entry name.

To enter, tweet your name entry to @Gtowndining with hashtag #GUMCNameGame or send an e-mail with the subject line “GUMC Name Game” to ads237@georgetown.edu.

The winning entry will be prominently displayed at the storefront and the winner will receive $150 to be used for in-store purchases. The winner and chosen name will be announced via twitter and by broadcast email to the GUMC community.
