Peshkin Discusses New Genetic Test for Alzheimer's Risk

A new genetic test is available for people who want to determine their risk of Alzheimer's disease. In a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), people who find out they are at a higher risk of getting the disease cope well when receiving the news.

According to Lombardi's Beth Peshkin, the genetic test is available to anyone who wants to know if they are at risk for developing Alzheimer's. The participants in the study, half of whom tested positive for the gene, said that if they had the chance to do the test over, they would. "Even though I understand the uncertainty of how predictive the test is, it would be something I'd be very anxious about," said Peshkin.
