Washington Post Features Georgetown Docs and Medical Students Using Their Smartphones

May 28, 2009

The Washington Post recently wrote an article on the usage of smartphones by both doctors and medical students. Doctors use smartphones to look up drug interactions, as well as to view x-rays and MRI scans.

According to GUMC's Steven Schwartz, smartphones are replacing PDA's and pagers due to their power and versatility. Nationwide, over 64 percent of doctors are currently using these devices.

Georgetown medical students are required to use an iPhone or iPod touch which helps students look up information during rotations, study vocabulary and even take quizzes.
