Shields Expresses Skepticism about Study Suggesting Walnuts Mitigate Cancer Risk

Peter Shields, deputy director of Lombardi, spoke to WebMD about his skepticism towards drawing big conclusions from a study which suggested that walnuts reduced the likelihood of cancer in mice. He said it was “outrageous” to suggest that people should change their dietary habits based on a study conducted in mice when only human clinical trials could suggest a meaningful link.
