Mazar to Visit Holy Land on Pilgrimage; Journey Will Mirror Pope's Visit to Traditional Holy Sites

April 20, 2009

Patty Mazar, senior administrator in the Office of Regulatory Affairs, will visit the countries of Jordan, Palestine and Israel during a pilgrimage, which she will lead May 2-16, sponsored by the Holy Land Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF).

Mazar, a member of the foundation since 2003, will visit the same time as Pope Benedict XVI and plans are underway for the group’s participation in the Papal visit. During the visit, Mazar and the other pilgrims will interact with Catholics living in the Holy Land with an emphasis on meeting children that the foundation currently supports in their education.

This will be the second pilgrimage to the Holy Land by Mazar. Her first one was in 2005 when she was encouraged by a local priest to go, citing that her life would never be the same. “He was right then, and it continues today,” Mazar told the Pittsburgh Catholic Weekly.

The pilgrims’ stop will include Mount Nebo, Jericho, Bethlehem, the Old City of Jerusalem, Nazareth, Cano and the Sea of Galilee.
