GUMC Community Celebrates Jeanne Larsen
April 7, 2009
Faculty and staff raised a glass to Jeanne Larsen, Assistant Director for Research at Dahlgren Library, on Thursday, March 19 at her going-away reception. Larsen has accepted a position at Seminole Community College near Orlando, Florida. Jett McCann, director of Dahlgren, told a gathering of well-wishers at her going-away party, “You can all blame me for giving her such a glowing recommendation…”
McCann outlined some of Larsen’s contributions during her time at Dahlgren, as the focus of the library services field evolved from print to electronic resources, noting her work to redesign library services from traditional reference assistance to more focused, research support activities.
“Jeanne touched a lot of people here, and her skills at finding information are unsurpassed—she has been called a magician. We are happy for her, but she will be missed,” Said HJF…
Students also had good things to say about Larsen:
Tamira Sanni-Sanoussi (M'12) said, “Ms. Larsen is an amazing woman, and it will be a real loss to the students at Georgetown when she retires. I can think of so many occasions in the past when she encouraged me and helped me move toward my goals. She's not only been a friendly face to see around, but a guide when I felt overwhelmed and discouraged. Her bright smile and even brighter red suits always put a smile on my face. I'll miss her more than words can say and Dahlgren will never be the same without her.”
“Jeanne was so kind to me from the first day I came to Georgetown,” said Pati Notario (M’10). “She was always interested in how things were going and willing to help with anything that came up. I especially appreciate the support she gave to us at HOYA Clinic—it was so wonderful to finally be able to show her around at the clinic at the open house last year after all her help. She will definitely be missed!”
Larsen was recently a John C, Rose Award winner, presented “annually to a member of the faculty or administration who has demonstrated outstanding service to the School of Medicine and has contributed to the improvement of medical education and student life.”
