Burns Discusses Novel Use of Alzheimer’s Drug to Treat Traumatic Brain Injury

Mark Burns, assistant professor of neuroscience, talked to HeathDay about his research into the possibility of using an Alzheimer’s disease drug to limit long-term damage from traumatic brain injury. He discussed how a drug designed to treat Alzheimer’s could also be used to treat traumatic brain injury. "In this study, we show that the same pathways activated chronically in Alzheimer's disease are activated acutely in traumatic brain injury and that they appear to play a very important role in secondary injury," Burns told HealthDay.
