Gelmann Reacts to New Prostate Cancer Screening Studies

Reuters News Agency interviewed Edward Gelmann, professor of oncology, regarding two new studies which reached differing conclusions about a commonly used blood test used to screen men for prostate cancer. Gelmann observed that, despite the differences, both studies showed that there are some men who unnecessarily treated.

"It is still very clear in both of these trials there is a lot of overdiagnosis," Gelmann told Reuters. “There is no question there are men who are getting the side effects (of treatment) without getting any benefit."
