Shields Talks with the Boston Globe about Alcohol and Cancer Risk

Peter Shields, deputy director of Lombardi, spoke to the Boston Globe about a new study which indicates that even mild consumption of alcohol can lead to an increase in a person’s risk of developing cancer. Shields compared this new information with past studies that indicate a reduction in a person’s risk of heart disease with this type of drinking. For him, the threat of developing cancer is more daunting than heart disease.

"As an oncologist, of course, I think if I was going to go, I'd rather have heart disease," Shields told the Boston Globe. "I think the cardiologists, they do a pretty good job of figuring out how to keep the plumbing to your heart working."
