Consortium of Jesuit Bioethics Programs

February 25, 2009

Two years ago Carol Taylor, RN, PhD, Director of Georgetown University’s Center for Clinical Bioethics, met with Directors of six other Jesuit Bioethics Programs to form a consortium of Jesuit Bioethics Programs. This group has recently conducted its first virtual symposium focusing on the recent controversy concerning the use of artificial hydration and nutrition with patients in persistent vegetative states. For information on the consortium and symposia, click here. Taylor’s commentary is entitled “Feeding decisions, the sensus fidelium and Catholic healthcare professionals.” For a copy of the consortium article published in Commonweal, click here. Next year’s symposium will focus on Research Ethics and select Catholic Considerations. The work of the consortium will be presented at the March 9-10 Jesuit Medical Colleges Symposium at St. Louis University Medical Center.
