February 12, 2009
Georgetown University Medical Center and the Mini-Medical School staff and faculty are pleased to announce the Spring 2009 Mini-Medical School Program, set to start Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Advance notice of the schedule and the exciting topics of this semester's program are being provided to the Georgetown University community.
The Mini-Medical School follows the traditional disciplines that medical students encounter during their training and offers innovative and timely presentations on a variety of topics related to the biomedical sciences and your health. An outstanding group of faculty has been assembled to present this material and the sessions promise to be every bit as exciting as those in years past. This semester, two series are offered: Conventional Medicine Series—a continuation from the fall, and Complementary & Alternative Medicine Series. Topics include: new drug discovery, massage therapy, plastic surgery in breast cancer, obesity, mind-body interactions, chiropractic care, the bottom line about drugs, naturopathic medicine, heart disease, nutrition, and emergency medicine.
The Mini-Medical School will be held in the Research Auditorium of the New Research Building on the Medical Center campus, and each session runs from 7 pm to 9 pm. There are 8 sessions in the Conventional Medicine Series, which will be held on Tuesdays from March 3 through April 21. The Complementary & Alternative Medicine Series also consists of 8 sessions, which will be held on Wednesdays from March 4 through April 22. Each series costs only $75 for Georgetown University and Medical Center employees and $100 (if postmarked by Friday, March 6, 2009) for the public. The cost rises to $125 if postmarked after March 6.
The Mini-Medical School is co-directed by Herbert Herscowitz and Carlos Suarez-Quian and coordinated by Judy Blooms and Essie Thompson. For registration forms and presentation information, visit the Mini-Medical School’s website at: http://som.georgetown.edu/prospectivestudents/minimed/, send your request to minimed@georgetown.edu , or call one of the coordinators, at 202-687-4324.
