Isaacs Comments on Study Suggesting Hormone Pills/Breast Cancer Link

January 29, 2009

A new study examining the relationship between menopausal hormone pills and breast cancer suggests that taking the pills doubles a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer. The Associated Press talked with breast cancer expert Claudine Isaacs, director of the clinical breast care program, about the study. She pointed out that this study has positive implications, showing women that stopping use of hormone pills even now can have beneficial effects. This story was picked up by the Los Angeles Times and The Chicago Tribune, among other news outlets.

“It's an excellent message for women: You can still diminish risk (by quitting), even if you've been on hormones for a long time,” Isaacs told the AP.
