Medical Students Celebrate 2008 Commencement

On the morning of Sunday, May 18, the School of Medicine's Class of 2008 gathered at Constitution Hall for their commencement ceremony. 181 doctor of medicine (M.D.) degrees were conferred, which included two  M.D./Ph.D. degrees and four M.D./M.B.A. degrees, and the class was comprised of 97 women and 84 men.

Ambassador Mark Dybul, M.D., was the commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient. Receiving his A.B. (1985) and M.D. (1992) from Georgetown, Dybul currently serves as U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator for the U.S. Department of State. 

Some highlights:

  • Two students, Brian M. Eiss and Laura A. Seiboth, graduated with summa cum laude honors (3.9 and above GPA).
  • Six graduates finished with magna cum laude honors (3.7 and above) and seventeen graduates finished with summa cum laude honors (3.5 and above)
  • 24 graduates earned membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
