NHS Student Presents Breast Cancer Research at Conference

Jennifer Mulla (NHS'08), a human science major at NHS, recently presented at the American Association of Cancer Research's annual meeting in San Diego.

Mulla served as first author on an abstract entitled, "The Role of IRF-1 in ICI 182,780 Mediated Apoptosis of MCF7/LCC9 Breast Cancer Cells." Co-authors at GUMC include Robert Clarke, interim director of the Biomedical Graduate Research Organization, Rebecca Riggins, research assistant professor in the Department of Oncology, and Alan Zwart, research assistant at the Lombardi.

At the conference, which ran from April 12-17, Mulla defended her poster and attended various sessions by leading cancer researchers.

In addition, Mulla met with Douglas R. Lowy, M.D., deputy director for the Division of Basic Sciences at the National Cancer Institute. After graduation, Mulla will be working for Lowy at NCI.
