GUMC EVP Howard Federoff Hosts Open Forum for Faculty and Staff

April 30, 2008

EVP for Health Sciences Howard Federoff held an open forum for faculty and staff on April 30. Federoff gave an update on GUMC finances, discussed new data that is being collected and analyzed on GUMC sponsored research revenues, addressed strategic planning, and took questions from faculty and staff.

In response to questions about the Medical Center's wage pool of one percent in FY 2009 and incentives for productive faculty and staff, Federoff acknowledged that the financial pressures on GUMC and the University made efficiency even more important in order to grow strategically as a medical center.

"There are a number of challenges facing us right now, and I know that impacts every one of us," Federoff said. "But our fiscal reality demands that we grow in a focused way, and that is only possible with an operating model that is efficient, more transparent, and based on the outcome of our strategic planning process."

Federoff also answered questions about the clinical partnership with MedStar Health, recruitment of a dean of research for the Medical Center, and fundraising levels.
