Music for the Mind – Old Songs Create New Memories

(March 08, 2012) — This year’s Music for the Mind brings together songs of the past and present with entertainer Wayne Brady’s imaginative and comic look back on vocalist and Rat Pack member, Sammy Davis Jr. and singer Sam Cooke’s soulful artistry. Wayne Brady has been featured in television shows such as Who’s Line Is It Anyway? and The Wayne Brady Show.

Paired with the National Symphony Orchestra Pops (NSO) and Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke, this musical evening journeys through the lives of two great entertainers and chronicles their extraordinary contributions through soul, R&B, and vaudeville performances.

Music for the Mind, NSO Pops: Wayne Brady Sings the Sammys will take place Saturday, March 31, 2012, with a cocktail reception starting at 6 p.m., followed by the musical performance at the Kennedy Center. The proceeds from this performance will directly benefit neuroscience research by young investigators at Georgetown University Medical Center, aimed at disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. This research strives to develop new treatments and the cures of tomorrow.
