WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Medical Center (new window) (GUMC) hosts the fourth annual Music for the Mind (new window) event, which supports research for neurologic disorders, at Arena Stage on April 30.

What: Music for the Mind supports research for debilitating neurodegenerative and neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke and traumatic brain injury. Music for the Mind aims to raise awareness about Georgetown’s Mind-Brain Initiative, which is translating groundbreaking scientific discoveries into new therapeutic approaches.

Proceeds support the Young Investigators Fund, benefiting Georgetown’s neuroscientists conducting cutting-edge research in their quest to discover treatments and cures.

The event includes a cocktail reception followed by a performance of “Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller” and a post-performance reception.

When: Wednesday, April 30, 2014

6:00-7:15 p.m. – Cocktail reception with Howard J. Federoff, GUMC Vice President for Health Sciences

7:30-9:30 p.m. – “Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller”

9:30-11:00 p.m. – Post-performance reception with award-winning actress, singer and lead cast member E. Faye Butler.
