Federoff Hosts Open Forum for GUMC Faculty and Staff
Howard J. Federoff addressed finances, recent news and the Strategic Planning Initiative (SPI) during an open forum for faculty and staff on June 1 in the New Research Building Auditorium.
During the forum, Federoff commented on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and answered questions from GUMC faculty and staff. Federoff told faculty and staff that GUMC is well on track to hit this year’s budget numbers and is doing better this year than last. He also took the time to thank members of the GUMC community for their many efforts in responding to ARRA.
According to Federoff, there was a terrific response to ARRA. GUMC submitted a total of 179 grant applications—59 more than expected. “We have put forth an impressive effort to compete for these funds,” Federoff said. “This is a remarkable achievement.” Federoff then congratulated the Deans for their great efforts this year. Federoff said that the medical school had 160 graduates, representing 41 states and territories, and that Georgetown’s ranking in U.S. News & World Report increased to 39th this year.
Federoff also announced GUMC’s two most recent recruitments; V. Craig Jordan to Lombardi and Bruce Luxon, who will serve as the chair in Department of Medicine. “This is exactly what we need to do,” said Federoff. “We need to continue to bring dedicated and accomplished staff to GUMC.”
In terms of the SPI, Federoff provided an update on the implementation design teams and shared the design teams’ charges with the community. The implementation design teams include:
• Faculty Affairs Design Team (FADT)
• Faculty Governance Design Team (FGDT)
• Financial, Operations, Facility Design Team (FOFDT)
• Stakeholder Communication Design Team (SCDT)
• Systems Medicine Design Team (SMDT)
• Educational Innovation Design Team (EIDT)
• Organizational Management Design Team (OMDT)
