Thank you for your interest in our program.  Georgetown University Hospital is located in a quiet up-scale residential neighborhood in Washington, D.C.  The hospital is located between the Medical School and the undergraduate campus in the upper part of the Georgetown residential neighborhood.

The Department of Radiology is one of the premier departments at Georgetown University Hospital.  Dr. James Spies, Chairman and Chief of Service, is one of the pioneers in the field of Uterine Artery EmbolizationDr. Susan Ascher, Co-Chief of Abdominal Imaging, is internationally known for her work especially in the area of Woman's Imaging and MRI.  Dr. Erini Makariou, Chief of Breast Imaging, and Drs. Sandra Polin and Pouneh Razavi perform MRI guided breast biopsies and breast localization.  Dr. Vance Watson, a skilled Interventional Neuroradiologist, runs a busy and active service.  The Imaging Science and Information Systems (ISIS) Center specializes in the use of medical imaging, information, robotics and Internet technology for the prevention and diagnosis of various cancers and the management of chronic illness.  If interested and quailified there is the opportunity to pursue the Holman Research Pathway.

Georgetown University Hospital is a tertiary medical center and is one of the premier medical centers in the greater Washington D.C. area.  Our patient population is drawn from Washington D.C., the surrounding suburbs, and from the mid-atlantic region.  An active and busy organ transplant service has been expanded to become one of the few medical centers performing intestinal transplant.  The Lombardi Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Washington D.C. area.  We are one of only sixteen medical centers in the country (August 2004) to have Cyberknife - a robotic system that delivers radiation therapy.  Georgetown is one of five Cyberknife sites, and the only one in the region that uses Synchrony - software that compensates for respiratory motion.

The department has recently undergone a influx of new equipment and technology, including a new Siemens MRI, a Siemens PET/CT, new Gamma Cameras, PowerScribe Voice Recognition, an upgrade to our Radiology Information System (RMS), installation of Phillips Stentor PACS, upgrades in our image processors and flouroscopy rooms and introduction of new 3D Workstations.  In the coming years we look forward to upgrading our CT Scanners, Interventional Suites and other department equipment.

Thank you for your interest in Georgetown.
