DATES AND LOCATIONS

Judging for Student Research Days takes place as follows:

Research Poster Session:

  • Judging: Friday, March 28, 2008
  • Lunch: 12:15 - 1:00 p.m. (NE201C Med-Dent Building)
  • Visit Posters: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Posters Location: Ground Floor, Preclinical Sciences Building

The Med-Dent Building is #6 on the Georgetown University Campus Map.

NOTE: Please plan to arrive at Georgetown University no later than 12:00 noon to allow for adequate time to park and make your way to the lunch location (NE201C Med-Dent Building).  We will not have access to the room until 12:00 noon, so lunch will begin at approximately 12:15pm, and judging instructions will be given during the lunch.  Judges should be prepared to remain a little past 5:00 p.m., if needed, though we have every expectation that the judging will wrap-up by 4:00 p.m.

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING

You may also find it helpful to view the Georgetown University Campus Map.  Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance) is located between #11 (Georgetown University Hospital) and #6 (Med-Dent Building) on the campus map. 

From Washington, DC:

  • From Northwest Washington: take Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road, turn right onto Reservoir Road.  Turn left at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance), just past 38th Street and Entrance #1. Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

  • From Southeast Washington: take Pennsylvania Avenue West to Independence Avenue.  Bear left.  Follow K Street to Whitehurst Freeway.  Turn left onto Canal Road.  Get into the right lane; when the road divides, bear to the right (the road will become Foxhall Road).  Make a right hand turn onto Reservoir Road.  Turn right at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance).  Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

  • From Northeast Washington: take Rhode Island Avenue West until it feeds into M Street.  Take M Street through Georgetown past the Key Bridge (the road will become Canal Road after the Key Bridge).  Get into the right lane; when the road divides, bear to the right (the road will become Foxhall Road).  Make a right hand turn onto Reservoir Road.  Turn right at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance).  Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

From Maryland:

  • From I-270: take I-270 South toward Washington.  Exit Route 355 Wisconsin Avenue South Washington.  Take Wisconsin Avenue South to Reservoir Road, turn right onto Reservoir Road.  Turn left at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance), just past 38th Street and Entrance #1. Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

  • From I-95: take I-95 South to I-495 West to Silver Spring.  Exit Route 355 Wisconsin Avenue South to Washington.  Take Wisconsin Avenue South to Reservoir Road, turn right onto Reservoir Road.  Turn left at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance), just past 38th Street and Entrance #1.   • From Baltimore-Washington Parkway or Route 50 Westbound: take B-W Parkway or Route 50 West to New York Avenue.  Take New York Avenue to L Street.  Bear Right.  Turn left onto 10th Street and then right on K Street.  Follow K Street to Whitehurst Freeway.  Turn left onto Canal Road.  Get into the right lane; when the road divides, bear to the right (the road will become Foxhall Road).  Make a right hand turn onto Reservoir Road.  Turn right at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance).  Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

From Northern Virginia:

  • From I-66 (after 9:00 a.m.): take I-66 east to the Rosslyn - Key Bridge exit.  Stay in left lane and follow signs to Key Bridge.  Cross Key Bridge, staying in the second lane from the left.  Turn onto Canal Road.  Get into the right lane; when the road divides, bear to the right (the road will become Foxhall Road).  Make a right hand turn onto Reservoir Road.  Turn right at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance).  Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

  • From I-395: take I-395 North.  Exit Washington Boulevard and follow signs to Rosslyn and Key Bridge.  Cross Key Bridge, staying in the second lane from the left.  Turn onto Canal Road.  Get into the right lane; when the road divides, bear to the right (the road will become Foxhall Road).  Make a right hand turn onto Reservoir Road.  Turn right at Entrance #2 (Emergency Room Entrance).  Please park in the Visitor Parking garage; be sure to retain the ticket you receive upon entering the garage so we may validate your parking.

JUDGING CRITERIA


Judges will be asked to consider the following criteria when visiting each assigned poster:

  • Skills of Presenter: Ability to Describe the Work and its Significance
  • Overall Appearance: Organization and Clarity of the Poster Presentation
  • Introduction and Formulation of Hypothesis: Is the Work Hypothesis Driven?
  • Quality and Extent of Work Done by the Presenter
  • Results/Figures
  • Conclusions: Understanding of the Project
  • Overall Evaluation of Poster and Presentation

 

Each judge will be given copies of the Poster Presentation Critique Form, and will be asked to complete a form for each poster they are assigned to judge.  The forms should be returned to the Event Coordinators at the end of the day, for subsequent distribution to the event participants.
