Local Middle School Students Visit Georgetown
As Part of Brain Awareness Week
When:
Thursday, March 14, 2002; 12:15 p.m.
What:
Approximately 50 seventh-graders from Hardy Middle School in Washington, DC, will visit Georgetown University Medical Center. The students will tour neuroscience laboratories, meet scientists, and participate in hands-on activities that include quizzes, games, simple neurological tests (such as identifying smells while blindfolded) and will even have the opportunity to handle various animal brains. In addition to teaching students about their own brains, the goal of this event is to remove some of the mystery surrounding science and show students that science can be fun.
Why:
These activities are part of Brain Awareness Week, March 11-17. Brain Awareness Week is sponsored by the Society for Neuroscience and The Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives, a nonprofit organization of more than 200 leading neuroscientists.
