Washington, D.C. Raymond L. Woosley, MD, PhD, has been appointed associate dean for clinical research at Georgetown University Medical Center. In his new role, Woosley will work to foster clinical research collaboration between Georgetown University Medical Center and Georgetown University Hospitalwhich, as of July 1, is owned and operated by MedStar Health, Inc. He will also work to obtain training grants for clinical investigators and promote research in the area of women’s health.
Woosley will be responsible for the operations of Georgetown’s General Clinical Research Center, the Clinical Research Pharmacy, the Clinical Research Services Office, the Center for Drug Development Sciences, and the Center for Clinical Pharmacology.
"I am very much looking forward to working with the many excellent investigators at both Georgetown University Medical Center and Georgetown University Hospital to foster clinical research," said Woosley. "Many impediments face clinical investigators nationwide, and I see my challenge as creating and fostering an environment in which scientific curiosity can be unbridled and rewarded, and outstanding clinical research can thrive."
Prior to his appointment, Woosley served as Chair of Georgetown’s Department of Pharmacology, a position he had held since 1988. Under his tenure, that department became one of the highest ranked pharmacology departments in terms of research funding, and achieved the largest endowment of any pharmacology department in the nation.
Woosley, who has special interests in the safe use of medication, received a bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Louisville. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami.
