"Team Georgetown" Recruiting Runners for National Race For the Cure®

Washington, D.C. — Lombardi Cancer Center is recruiting participants from the DC metropolitan area to participate in the 2001 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation National Race for the Cure® as part of "Team Georgetown."

The National Race for the Cure®, which is the world’s largest 5K run/walk and is now in its 12th year, will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday June 2, 2001. Team Georgetown will start with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Oncology Parade of Pink and Pre-Race Rally on the Washington Monument Grounds at Constitution Avenue and 17th Street NW. Runners start the race at 8:30 a.m. at 12th Street and Constitution Avenue NW and walkers follow at 8:45 a.m. at 15th Street and Constitution.

In its inaugural year, the Komen National Race® attracted more than 7,500 participants and raised nearly half a million dollars. Last year, close to 70,000 participants raised almost $3 million. At least $1 million of the net proceeds from the event will remain in Maryland, DC and Virginia to support local research, education, screening and treatment. The remainder directly funds the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Research Program.

To become a member of Team Georgetown, use the Team Code LCC when registering with the official registration from, by mail or online at www.nationalraceforthecure.org. For more information or to pledge your support, contact Kathy McKay at (202) 687-8223 or email at mckayk@gunet.georgetown.edu.
